Baseball Drops Second Straight to College of Idaho

(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert baseball team dropped its second game in a row to the College of Idaho 7-5 at Arizona Athletic Grounds Sunday afternoon. The Bucs have lost its first two games of the season for the third time in five seasons. They are 1-1 in the third game on the previous three occasions.

The Bucs gave El Paso CC transfer Eduardo Crosby his first start on the mound and he held the Yotes scoreless through the first two innings but was touched up for two runs in the third.

Early in the season, the Bucs are giving everyone on its pitching staff an opportunity to get some innings and have pitchers on a pitch and inning count. Crosby gave way in the fourth to lefty DJ Martin who was touched for a hit and a solo run in the third in his three innings of work.

The Bucs got on the board in the fifth as Andrew Allanson singled to left to score Jason Newtonwho led off the inning with a double. Then in the sixth, they cut it to one as a walk and a double put runners on second and third and shortstop RJ Molina got the run home with a groundout.

The College of Idaho greeted reliever Zach Fogle with three runs in the top of the seventh to break the game open. The Bucs responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the eighth the cut the lead back to one.

That would be all the scoring the Bucs would have as the Yotes added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, before closing it out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth.

Newton went 2-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Senior catcher Cole Sneed went 2-4 with an RBI and Dawson Wedeking also added two hits. Molina had two RBI and a run scored.

The two teams will finish the series tomorrow morning starting at 11 a.m. at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
