Seven score in double figures as Aztecs Men’s Basketball beats GCU Club 125-71 to move to 7-0

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (7-0) dominated the first half and led from the get-go as it played a non-conference game against GCU Club.

The Aztecs defeated the Antelopes 125-71 after outscoring them 77-30 in the first half.

The Aztecs scored the first 10 points of the game. After Pima called a timeout up 17-11 they went on a 20-4 run to make it 37-15. The Aztecs continued to pour it on as they outscored GCU 30-8 in almost six minutes. Pima led 67-23 at that point with 3:01 left in the half.

The Aztecs led by as much as 56 points in the second half.

Sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) led the way with a game-high of 21 points as he went 8 for 13 from the field and 2 for 5 from three-point range.

Sophomore Jaylen Alexander finished the game with 15 points after going 5 for 7 from the floor to go along with five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Freshmen Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS), Moses Demalek (Paradise Valley HS) and sophomore Toate Sika (Rincon HS) each scored 13 points. Gonzales also had three assists and four steals while Demalek added eight rebounds and three assists. Sika pulled down seven boards and had five steals.

Sophomore Yahir Garcia (Tucson Magnet HS) and freshman Wes Ball (Marana HS) each had 10 points off the bench. Freshman Jackson Leyba (Deer Valley HS) added seven points and 11 rebounds and fellow freshman Cooper Jones (Buena HS) posted nine points.

The Aztecs face their first road test next Saturday, Dec. 9 when they play at Mesa Community College in ACCAC conference action. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
