Eight Soccer Players Named Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athletes

(Gilbert, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert men’s and women’s soccer teams had a combined eight players named Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athletes. Kaitlyn Aeppli, Hallie Benson, Catherine Corlett, Gaby Pinzon and Hallie Thompson were honored on the women’s side and Max Gross, Austin Murray and Osvaldo Sanchez on the men’s team.

Aeppli, a senior from Queen Creek, Ariz., posted a 3.548 GPA in Sport and Exercise Science. On the field, Aeppli, played in 10 games this season, starting six and scored the tying goal in Bucs game tie versus Benedictine Mesa which put the Bucs into the postseason for the first time in program history.

Benson, a junior from Sandy, Utah, posted a 3.901 GPA in Psychology. She played in 14 contests, starting seven and had two assists and four shots on the season.

This is the third academic award of the year for Corlett who was just recently named to the CSC Region All-Academic team and now adds this national award to her resume. Corlett, a senior from Gilbert, Ariz., posted a 4.0 GPA in Sport and Exercise Science while rewriting the Buccaneer record book between the pipes. Corlett holds the school record for wins in a season and career wins as well as the season and career goals against average record.

Gross, a senior from Stuttgart, Germany, carded a 3.6 GPA in Business Administration. He played in 15 games, starting every one and scored a goal with six assists on the season.

Murray, a senior from Murray, Utah, posted a 4.0 GPA in Sport and Exercise Science. He played in nine games, starting three with a goal scored this season.

Pinzon, a junior from Centennial, Colo., had a 3.754 GPA in Psychology. Pinzon played in 10 games, starting three this season.

Sanchez, a senior from Phoenix, Ariz., posted a 3.69 GPA in Sport and Exercise Science.

Thompson, a graduate student from Lake Havasu, Ariz., played in all 16 games this season, starting three. She had 10 shots, with six of them on goal.
