(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (5-1, 2-0 in ACCAC) took control of its game against Glendale Community College (4-4, 0-2) in the second half on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 13 ranked Aztecs defeated the Gauchos 80-39 after outscoring them 43-15 in the second half.
Up 37-24 at halftime, the Aztecs surrendered a three-pointer to start off the third quarter but countered with an 11-0 run to make it 48-27. Pima finished the quarter on a 23-5 run to make it 60-32 entering the fourth.
The Aztecs scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter and held the Gauchos scoreless for almost 10 minutes.
The Aztecs led the entire game as they scored the first seven points of the contest and led 25-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) led all scores with 18 points as she went 8 for 9 from the field and also grabbed six rebounds.
Freshman Gabby Lopez (Bisbee HS) went 5 for 6 from the field and scored 11 points. She also grabbed three rebounds and had three steals.
Freshman Rylei Waugh finished the game with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Sophomore Jordan Joe scored eight points in the second half and went 3 for 4 from the field and freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) added seven points and seven rebounds.
The Aztecs out-rebounded the Gauchos 46-29 for the game.
The Aztecs will host Central Arizona College on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
