(Merced, CA)  Both the Park University Gilbert men’s and women’s soccer teams dropped 4-0 decisions to UC Merced today at Bobcat Park in Merced, Calif.  The Buc women fall to 4-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in Cal Pac play. The men are now 2-6-3, 2-3-2 in conference.

The Bucs knew this would be a tough test as the UC Merced men’s team is currently receiving votes in the latest top 25 poll and the Bobcat women’s team made the NAIA Tournament a year ago.

The Park women knew they were going to have a hard match with Merced and the Bobcats lived up to the high billing.

The Bucs were held to four shots (three on goal) while the Bobcats peppered Park goal keeper Catherine Corlett with 21 shots (nine on goal).

The game was close in the first half with UCM holding a 1-0 lead at halftime. The game was broken open in the second half as Merced scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the second half and then bottled up its end defensively to close out the game.

Emma Alvarez led the Bucs with two shots with one on goal, while Alli Meisel and Alexandra White had the other two shots. Corlett finished with five saves.

This ends the weekend for the women as they get a forfeit win over Cal Maritime as the Keelhaulers had to cancel their season due to lack of players. The win goes in the overall win column for Park but will not count towards conference standings.

The Buc men took a tough loss to the Bobcats after tying them a year ago in Arizona. Merced set the tone in the first half with three goals, then added the fourth nine minutes into the second half to complete the scoring for the game.

Park managed six shots, but only two on goal while Merced had 17 shots (nine on goal). Havard Brynie had both of the Park shots on goal for the game.

Zac Stephenson made five saves in goal for the Bucs.

The men will play on Sunday against Cal Maritime as they attempt to get back on the winning track after two consecutive losses. Last year the Bucs beat Cal Maritime 12-0 at Legacy Sports Park. The game will start at 1:30 p.m.
