(Fresno, CA) The Park University Gilbert men’s and women’s cross country teams both finished fifth at the California Pacific Conference Cross Country Championships today at Woodward Park. Davin Soto had a top-10 finish for the men, ending in ninth place, while Maryan Sharif finished just outside the top-10 on the ladies side with an 11th-place finish.
Embry Riddle won both the men’s and women’s title, with championship host UC Merced and Soka finishing second and third on both sides as well.
On the men’s side for the Bucs, Soto was the top finisher with a ninth place time of 26:10.22 a 5:16 pace. Manuel Najera posted a 24th-place finish with a time of 31:39.1. Jaylen Granberry (34:45.6), Dylan Hukill (43.22.3) and Damien Najera (43.22.4) finished 37th, 43rd and 44th respectively.
On the women’s side, Sharif was the Bucs top finisher for the eighth consecutive race, this time with an 11th-place finish in a time of 24:51.8 a 6:40 pace. Senior Kenyah Reed finished in 29th with a 28:49.4 time followed by sophomore Madison Turner in 30th at 28:58.2. Nardia Padilla (31:31.8) and Jaiden Canady (33:16.8) rounded out the day for the Bucs.
This closes out the season for first year head coach Curtis King and the Bucs which saw Sharif win Cal Pac Runner of the Week honors twice and Soto once. Soto also posted two top-10 finishes in meets this fall.
