Bucs Sweep Providence Christian

(Pasadena, CA)  The Park University Gilbert volleyball team finished its two-match road trip on a good note, beating Providence Christian 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-14) this afternoon. With the win, the Bucs have now won six of its last seven games and are 11-10 overall and 9-6 in conference play.

The Buccaneers are sitting in fourth place and continue to improve as their youthful teams gets more comfortable as the season moves along.

The Buccaneers dominated play as they hit .440 in the first set. Jade Laikona had five kills in the first frame and Railey Druxman had four as the Bucs posted 14 putaways and only three errors.

The second set was more of the same as Park had another 14 kills and hit .281. Druxman and Kyla Knight each had five kills in the set. The Bucs also clamped down defensively forcing the Sea Beggars into a .000 hitting percentage (6 kills, 6 errors).

Park rode the momentum of the first two sets into the third as it went on a 12-2 run from a 6-4 score to build an 18-6 advantage. The Bucs would cruise home from there to take the match and continue its late season run.

The Bucs hit .333 for the game with 40 kills and only 10 errors. The Bucs held PCC to a .086 hitting percentage and only 23 kills.

Individually the Buccaneers spread the wealth today as the top two outside hitters and top two opposite hitters combined for 32 kills, 16 for the two outside hitters and 16 for the two right side hitters.

Outside hitter Druxman led the way with nine kills, Right side hitters Knight and Maggie Scranton had eight kills each and Laikona the other outside hitter had seven kills. Druxman hit a career high .409 with no errors. Scranton hit .400 with only two errors.

Makayla Simmons added 18 digs and Daniella Miranda-Johnson led with 19 assists and Uma Lorentzen added 12 assists and 8 digs.

Up next for Park is a three-match road trip to northern California to take on Pacific Union, UC Merced and Simpson on October 26-28.
