(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert women’s soccer team lost to the University of Saint Katherine 4-0 this evening at Legacy Sports Complex. The Buccaneers had their two-game winning streak snapped as they fall to 3-3-2 on the season overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. Saint Katherine moves to 5-2-2 overall and 3-1 in the Cal Pac.

The game started off on the wrong foot for the Bucs as the Firebirds scored two goals within 42 seconds in the fourth minute as Stephanie Zamora and Isabella Coronado got on the board for USK to give them a 2-0 lead.

USK dominated play in the first half with 10 shots (7 on goal) and two corner kicks to only 3 shots (2 on goal) for the Bucs. The Firebirds were also very physical with 8 fouls in the half.

The Bucs were aggressive to start the second half but could only break through the Firebird “D” for one shot on goal early.

Then in the 62 minutes USK posted its third goal of the game by Kaamna Shankar and then 1:53 later Coronado scored goal number two on the game to make it 4-0.

Alicia Ypina led the Bucs with two of their 4 shots on goal. The Firebirds outshot the Bucs 18-6 with 13 shots on Bucs goalkeeper Catherine Corlette. The Bucs put five of its six shots on goal.

The Buccaneers return to action next Friday as they host Simpson University at Legacy Sports Complex starting a 6 p.m. The Bucs and Redhawks played to a 0-0 tie last year in Redding, California.
