(Glendale, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert men’s soccer team took a talented Arizona Christian team to the brink, but ultimately fell 3-1 at Arizona Christian’s football field.

The Buccaneers got on the board first as junior Ashton Owen scored the first goal in his Buccaneer career off of a nice pass from freshman Konstantinos Hinteregger. But despite numerous opportunities the Bucs could not convert again.

The Firestorm answered back with three unanswered goals over the last 30 minutes. After tying the game eight minutes after the Bucs first goal, the game remained knotted at 1-1 until there was 10 minutes left in the game. Park Gilbert was not able to get the ball out of its own end as ACU stole the ball and converted it for its second goal to take the lead. The Firestorm added an insurance goal with just over two minutes left.

Both teams managed to reach double digits in shots as ACU had 14 to 10 for Park. The Firestorm also had two more shots on goal (6-4).

The Bucs played a physical game with 18 fouls and one yellow card, while the Firestorm had eight fouls and two yellow cards.

Owen had the only goal for the Bucs on two shots, while junior Konstantin Popanikolaou had three shots to lead the team.

Park will return to the pitch on Monday as they travel back to the west side to Surprise, Ariz., to take on OUAZ Monday evening at 7 p.m. at OUAZ football stadium.
