(San Francisco, CA)  The Pac-12 announced lacrosse postseason awards on Tuesday morning and two Sun Devils have been named to awards. Attacker Teagan Ngreceived the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year award and midfielder Kaylon Buckner was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference Second Team.

“It is great to have Teagan be recognized as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year as she has faced many top matchups throughout the regular season while playing a major role in our offense. Teagan is humble and hungry and she’s just getting started as a Sun Devil,” said Taryn VanThof.

Freshman of the Year Ng made an immediate impact on the program, starting and appearing in every game for the Sun Devils this season. The Canadian scored a hat trick in her collegiate debut against St. Bonaventure, which was just one of three hat tricks she had on the season. In the Sun Devil’s win against UC Davis, she had a career high five goals and two assists for seven points. Ng leads all freshmen in the Pac-12 in goals with 27, which is 15 more than the next closest freshman.

“It’s a well deserved honor for Kaylon, as she has led our offense and been a force on the draw circle all season long,” said VanThof. “I’m excited to see these two and our team take action in post season play.”

Buckner, who is one of four team captains, is a five-year player for the Sun Devils and has left her mark on the program. Buckner leads the team in goals with 33 on the season, is the season leader in points (41) and the team’s all-time leader in draw controls (220). In the NCAA, Buckner is ranked 49th with 4.81 draw controls per game. She is 12th in total points and tied for 9th in total goals in the Pac-12 this season. She was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on March 28 following a career high six goal performance against Colorado which also included one assist and 10 draw controls and her four goal outing against Oregon. She is also one of just seven Sun Devils who has started and played in every game this season. Her start against No. 20 USC (4/28/2023) marked 78 appearances for Buckner, tying the program high in most games played.

Buckner and Ng are headed to Berkeley with Sun Devil Lacrosse for the 2023 Pac-12 Tournament. No. 4 Arizona State will face No. 5 California on Wednesday, May 3 at 4:30 p.m. MST on Pac-12 Network with Troy Clardy and Kara Lentz.
