Jay Shero remains in hunt for individual title after third round at NJCAA National Championships

(Newton, KS)  The Pima Community College men’s golf team closed out the third round of the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Thursday in Newton, Kansas.

The Aztecs sit in 21st place out of 24 teams with a score of 896 (298-301-297). They have a chance to climb the team standings entering the final round on Friday at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

Sophomore Jay Shero shot a 2-under par 70 for the second straight round as he sits tied for 13th place in the individual standings with a three-day total of 212 (72-70-70). He is six-strokes behind leader Chris Wardrup from Midland Community College (69-70-67-206).

Freshman Herman Holst climbed up the individual standings after he shot his best round of the tournament, finishing at an even-par 72 on the day. He is now tied for 53rd place with a 222 (73-77-72).

Sophomore Max Krueger (Salpointe Catholic HS) shot a 3-over par 75 and is tied for 88th place with a 227 (72-80-75).

Freshman RJ Wright (Bisbee HS) rounded out the team scoring as he closed out his day with an 80.

The Aztecs will close out play in the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Friday in Newton, Kansas.
