Sun Devils Secure Victory Over UC Davis with Seven Point Day by Teagan Ng

(San Diego, CA)   With a six goal second quarter Sunday afternoon, Sun Devil Lacrosse (5-11, 3-6 Pac-12) defeated UC Davis (7-6) on 39 shots by a score of 16-11. Freshman Teagan Ng broke her single game career high record with five goals on the day, Mina Scotttallied a hat trick and four Sun Devils scored two goals apiece.

The Sun Devils will conclude their regular season in Tempe Friday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. MST at Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium against No. 20 USC. Friday’s afternoon match up will feature recognition to the 2023 seniors.

Six Sun Devils scored against the Aggies – Teagan Ng, Mina Scott, Bella Ingrao, Greta Stahl, Annie Haley and Lydia Oldknow

Five Sun Devils, Teagan Ng, Mina Scott, Tate Stokesberry, Anna Winkeler and Bella Ingrao tallied assists with Teagan Ng leading the group with two.

The Sun Devils scored one woman-up goal (Scott).

Twelfth time in 2023 the Sun Devils have scored double digits in their game.

Teagan Ng broke her single game career high record with five goals against the Aggies.

Ng also hit a new single game point record with seven.

Sophomore Annie Haley set a new single game career high of two goals.

Zoe Mazur tallied 10 draw controls of Arizona State’s 17. With 10, she broke her single game draw control record by one.

Gigi Gaspar had five ground balls.

Seven Sun Devils recorded a caused turnover – Katie Vahle, Helen Park, Maddelena Signorile, Annie Haley, Tate Stokesberry, Bella and Gigi Gaspar.

The Sun Devils came back from being down three goals twice.

 

Out shot the Aggies 39 to 23.

Game Summary:

It was a tough start for the Sun Devils as they went down three goals in the first five minutes. Seven minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Bella Ingrao found Mina Scott in front of the net who turned for a quick shot to cut the deficit to one goal. 

With ten minutes left in the half, the Sun Devils cleared their side and Scott in the sprint, she sustained the scoring for ASU. Matched with an Aggie goal to make it 6-3 UC Davis, the Maroon and Gold answered back. Behind the net, Ng created herself space before taking it in for her second goal of the day. The Sun Devils continued with their offensive push and 38 seconds later, Tate Stokesberry connected with Greta Stahl to make it a one goal game and forced UCD to take a timeout. To restart, Zoe Mazur won the draw control, allowing ASU to go back at the Aggies in which Ng tallied the game tying goal. The Aggies regained the lead with a free position goal. Cutting across the net with a defender trailing, Ingrao took the shot and brought ASU back to even with UCD, 7-7. In the final seconds of the half, Scott found Lydia Oldknow who sniped it in for the first lead of the game for the Sun Devils.

The whistle of the second half blew, and fury was unleashed immediately from the start as Scott tallied the final goal to her hat trick 47 seconds in. Following, Ingrao beat off her Aggie defender to notch the double digit goal, flipping the script to put the Sun Devils ahead by three. Shortly after, the Aggies scored a goal, but was answered by Ng’s fourth goal. With two minutes left, UCD attempted to knock down the lead however it was Ng, again, to keep the three goal lead. The final quarter was met with four back-to-back goals by the Sun Devils that ultimately shut down the Aggies.
