(Tempe, AZ)  After ASU took an early two-run lead, No. 9 Stanford (36-10, 11-8 Pac-12) had four unanswered runs to take the opener of the series, 4-2, on Friday night at Farrington Stadium.

Yanni Acuña and Jazmine Hill singled to start the game for the Sun Devils (21-21, 5-14 Pac-12) and each came around to score on an error and a sacrifice from Makenna Harper. ASU held that 2-0 lead into the third when the Cardinal pulled even with two runs.

Kylee Magee got the start in the circle, going for five innings and having two strikeouts. Mac Osborne closed out the evening for the Sun Devils as she allowed no runs in the final two frames.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Using singles from Acuña  and Hill, the Sun Devils went in front 2-0 early as the duo came around to score on a throwing error and a sacrifice bunt from Harper.

After a scoreless second inning for both teams, Stanford, with two on base, tied the game in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly and ASU error.

The Cardinal took the lead in the top of the fourth off another Sun Devil miscue to make it 3-2.

Stanford extended the lead to the game’s final margin of 4-2 with a run in the fifth.

NOTABLES

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Kayla Lissy had her 100th career hit on a single.

Jordyn VanHook drew a pair of walks for the fourth time this season.

Osborne threw two shutout innings to give her consecutive scoreless appearances for the first time this season.

Magee tied her career high with five innings pitched, done last against Arizona on March 12.

Head Coach Megan Bartlett
On Balancing Honoring the Seniors while Staying Locked in for the Series
“When they step on the mound we expect them to fight and grind and compete as best as they can. Senior Day happens every year and the best way to honor them is to stay locked in and compete. It’s special to be able to honor them at home with their parents here. The parents have been wonderful supporters of the program and are grateful their kids came back to be Sun Devils.”

On Kylee Magee’s Performance
“I thought Kylee did a great job tonight. She gives us our most consistent presence on the mound. We have really good pitchers that can bend the ball vertically and compliment it with good offspeed stuff, but Kylie is the one that can stick to a pitching plan and attack hitters. Her team loves her and they trust her on the mound. I want Kylie to get used to throwing on Friday nights under the lights at Arizona State University because she’s going to win a lot of ball games for us.”

UP NEXT

The Sun Devils will host the second of the three-game series tomorrow night at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on the ASU Live Stream.
