Caleb Knight and Max Krueger earn medals for Top 5 finishes as Men’s Golf takes second at Eastern AZ Invitational

(Thatcher, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s golf team completed play in its fifth tournament of the season on Tuesday at the Eastern Arizona College Invitational.

The No. 5 ranked Aztecs took second place for the third time this season as they finished with a two-day total of 581 (292-289) at the Mt. Graham Golf Course in Thatcher. South Mountain Community College finished first with a score of 567 (280-287).

Sophomore Caleb Knight was the top individual finisher for the Aztecs as he tied for third place with a total of 142. He shot a 1-over par 73 in Monday’s round and closed out the final round with a 3-under par 69. Sophomore Max Krueger (Salpointe Catholic HS) took fifth place in the final standings after he shot a 143. He shot a 1-under 71 in the first round and went even-par 72 in Tuesday’s round. Knight and Krueger each earned medalist honors for their placements.

Sophomore Jay Shero shot a 1-under par 71 in the first round and closed out the tournament tied for 11th place with a total of 148 (71-77).

Freshman Herman Holst finished tied for 14th place after he shot a 150 (77-73).

The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Saturday and Sunday when they play in the Estrella Mountain CC Invitational held at the Tres Rios Golf Course in Goodyear. Teams will begin to tee off at 10:30 a.m. on both days.
