Sun Devils Fall Short in Overtime to No. 24 Jacksonville

(Jacksonville, FL)  In a full 60-minute battle with overtime, six different Sun Devils found the back of the net Friday afternoon with three finding it twice. It wouldn’t be enough as Arizona State lacrosse (1-3) fell short 10-9 against No. 24 Jacksonville.

Up next the Sun Devils will play at No. 7 Florida, Sunday, March 5 with first draw at 10 a.m. MST on ESPN+ and StatBroadcast. Sunday’s game will be dedicated to Morgan’s Message, an organization dedicated to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community.

NOTABLES:

Annie Haley, Bella Ingrao and Mina Scott each scored a free position goal in the first quarter. Scott would score two on the day.

Six Kaylon Buckner, Mina Scott and Bella Ingrao claimed two goals on the day.

McKenna Riley, Lydia Oldknow and Berit Brookfield notched assists.

Annie Haley is on a two-game goal streak.

Kaylon Buckner has tallied eight goals in four games, now leading the team in goals.The Sun Devils went 17-17 on clears.

FIRST QUARTER
On the third free position opportunity in the first quarter, Annie Haley grabbed the first goal on the day. Four minutes later McKenna Riley would feed Berit Brookfield her fourth goal of the season to put the Sun Devils up 2-0. The Dolphins scored two before Ingrao capitalized on another free position to regain the lead. 64 seconds later Scott scored her free position for a 4-2 lead on the Dolphins. ASU would head into the second quarter with a 5-2 lead after a goal by Buckner.

SECOND QUARTER
Six minutes in, Bella Ingrao grabbed the lone goal for the Sun Devils in the second quarter. The Dolphins bounced back to score four, tying the game headed into the half.

THIRD QUARTER
ASU had a quiet third as much of the offensive play was carried by Jacksonville. 

FOURTH QUARTER
At the beginning of the quarter, Jacksonville changed their goaltender. A minute in and one goal down, Buckner found open space and Lydia Oldknow fed her into the goal to tie 7-7. In 66 seconds, Riley would give the Sun Devils their third lead of the day. The Dolphins would not go away, as they tied the game once again. Scott had back-to-back free position chances, knocking it in her second time to put the Devils up 9-8. Ultimately, the Dolphins fought back to push the game into overtime where they won.
