(Tempe, AZ)   Another quiet night at the plate led to the 22nd-ranked Sun Devils falling to No. 17 Arizona 11-0 in six innings, and dropping the first Pac-12 series of the season. Arizona State didn’t get a hit until the fourth inning and finished the night with only two singles.

Arizona scored twice in the first inning and three times in the second to build a 5-0 advantage. The visitors then plated five runs in the sixth to put the game away.

Makenna Harper and Alexa Milius had the two hits for the Sun Devils. ASU was hitless in three at-bats with runners in scoring position, with all three coming in the bottom of the sixth.

NOTABLES:

Yanni Acuña reached base twice via a hit by pitch. She has now been hit 37 times in her career to rank among the active leaders in the NCAA.

Before the game, former Sun Devil softball star Dallas Escobedo threw out the ceremonial first pitch. During her four-year career, Escobedo pitched to a 115-26 record with an even 2.00 ERA. Her 1,222 strikeouts ranks second in Sun Devil softball history, sitting behind Katie Burkhart.
