(Tempe, AZ)  No. 15 Sun Devil Water Polo fell, 6-19, to the top-ranked Cardinal in Sunday’s loss after a week off. With the loss, ASU drops to 8-9 overall and 0-2 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference play, but will have a chance to pick up their first MPSF conference win against Indiana next week on Saturday, April 1.

The Sun Devils had faced Stanford earlier this season in the Stanford Invitational, and scored eight goals in the 8-12 loss where a duo of freshman, Juliette Dhalluin and Sophie Shorter-Robinson, each netted hat tricks in the loss.

This time around, graduate attacker Tina Doherty and freshman center Sophie Shorter-Robinson each netted two goals against Stanford, but the two-time Olympian at center for the Cardinal led their attack and could not be stopped. Freshman goalkeeper Alexa Knutsonearned another start, and tallied 15 saves in net and recorded a steal.

UP NEXT: The Sun Devils look to rebound next weekend on the road, where they travel to Bloomington to take on No. 19 Indiana and face Tina Doherty’s former team.
