Joey Adge hits walkoff, Anthony Imhoff throws shutout as Aztecs Baseball splits with Eastern Arizona College

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (15-6, 6-4 in ACCAC) faced off against another ACCAC Division I opponent in Eastern Arizona College (10-12, 3-7) in a conference doubleheader on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Field.

The Aztecs scored three runs and struggled on defense committing seven errors on the day.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 1, Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 0

Sophomore Joey Adge led off the 7th inning and took a 1-0 count to left field for the walk-off home run.

Adge finished the game 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Freshman Brant Kragel went 2 for 3 while sophomores Andrew Stucky (Canyon del Oro HS) and Braedon Mondeau (Cienega HS) each were 1 for 3.

Sophomore Anthony Imhoff (Queen Creek HS) pitched a gem and got the win (4-1) after he threw a complete-game shutout, giving up two hits with five strikeouts and no walks on 98 pitches.

Game 2: Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 6, Pima CC Aztecs 2

The Gila Monsters took advantage of Pima’s errors in the 5th inning and the Aztecs couldn’t recover in their second game defeat.

Down 1-0, the Aztecs tied the game in the 2nd inning when freshman David Shackelford hit an RBI single to score Stucky. The Aztecs took the lead in the 3rd inning after sophomore Gage Mestas hit an RBI single to score freshman Austin Madsen (Canyon del Oro HS), who led off the inning with a double. The Aztecs took a 2-1 lead.

The Gila Monsters scored four runs as the Aztecs committed three errors in the inning.

Mestas finished the game 3 for 4 with an RBI while Madsen was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Stucky closed it out going 1 for 3 with a run and Shackelford went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Freshman Alessandro Castro (Pusch Ridge Christian HS) took the loss (3-2) as he pitched five innings, giving up five runs (one earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field on Tuesday when they host an ACCAC doubleheader against Paradise Valley Community College. First game starts at noon.
