Jay Shero claims individual title at Pima Invitational

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s golf team closed out its third tournament of the season on Tuesday as it hosted the Pima CC Invitational held at the Randolph North Golf Course.

The No. 4 ranked Aztecs took third place in the final team standings with a two-day score of 580 (287-293). They finished 2-strokes behind Glendale Community College for second place and 9-strokes behind South Mountain Community College for first place. The Aztecs held a 1-stroke lead after Monday’s first round.

Sophomore Jay Shero, competing as an individual, took first place as he shot a 4-under par 68 in his final round. He finished shooting a 6-under par 138 (70-68).

Fellow sophomore Max Krueger (Salpointe Catholic HS) tied for second place as he finished 3-strokes behind Shero in the individual standings with a score of 141. He shot a 1-under par 71 in Monday’s round and a 2-under 70 in the final round.

Freshman Herman Holst tied for ninth place with a score of 145 (70-75) while sophomore Daniel Henely (Cienega HS) tied for 13th with a 146 (73-73). Sophomore Caleb Knight closed out the tournament with a two-round score of 148 (73-75).

The Aztecs will compete at the Paradise Valley CC Invitational on March 13-14 at the Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix.
