Ryan Campos added his second homer of the series and posted three RBIs to cap off a weekend where he bat .727 on 8-of-11 hitting with a .769 OBP, two homers, a 1.364 slugging percentage and team-high six RBIs.
Nu’u Contrades launched his first career homer and had a career-best four RBIs. Luke Hill, Luke Keaschall and Jacob Tobias all enjoyed themselves with three hits this afternoon, combining for nine RBI’s altogether.
Jonah Giblin twirled a gem in his first start this season going five innings allowing no runs and no walks with three strikeouts.
The Sun Devils improve to 9-7 on the season and look on to their next game on Tuesday, March 14th where they take on Utah Tech at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. First pitch is at 6:00pm MST and will be streaming on the Pac-12 live stream.
THE TURNING POINT
The Sun Devils jumped out early to a 3-0 advantage in the first with a Ryan Campos RBI single, a Luke Keaschall RBI double and a Jacob Tobias RBI single to put the pressure on the Aggies from the start.
THE BIG MOMENT
The Sun Devils opened up the game with a six-run second inning. Luke Hill had a two-RBI double to start the scoring, following a two-RBI single from Jacob Tobias and ending with a pair of RBI singles from Isaiah Jackson and Nu’u Contrades.
THE FINAL STRAW
Nu’u Contrades and Ryan Campos each enjoyed a two-run home run to highlight a five run fourth inning to put the Aggies away and secure the series sweep.
INNING BY INNING
First Inning
In the top of the first, The Aggies had a baserunner reach via a single. However, a one out attempted stolen base failed, thus limiting any additional baserunners. A strikeout ended the inning. The game was tied 0-0 and Jonah Giblin needed just nine pitches in the opening frame.
In the bottom half, the Sun Devils got to work early via a double from Luke Hill followed by an RBI single from Ryan Campos to give the Sun Devils the early 1-0 lead. In the ensuing at bat, Luke Keaschall roped an RBI double that brought in Campos from first to extend the Sun Devils lead to two. Jacob Tobias joined in with an RBI single of his own, but was thrown out at second trying to stretch a double. An Isaiah Jackson groundout ended the inning. The Sun Devils led 3-0.
Second Inning
In the top half of the inning, the Aggies had baserunners early via a couple of singles which had men on first and second. However, a one out hard lineout to Luke Hill forced a double play to end the inning. The Sun Devils still led 3-0.
In the bottom half, Trey Newman and Wyatt Crenshaw got aboard via a single and a walk. Then it was Luke Hill who hit a bases clearing double to extend the Sun Devils lead to five. Ryan Campos walked to once again have runners on first and second with one out. A Luke Keaschall walk loaded the bases. Jacob Tobias recorded a two RBI single, then advanced to second base via an E3 trying to throw the runner out at home. Willie Cano walked to load the bases again with still only one out.
A RBI single for Isaiah Jackson has the Sun Devils go station to station to extend the lead to eight. Contrades came back up and drove in Tobias on a looping single to left. The Aggies finally retired the side on two straight outs.
Third Inning
In the top of the third the Aggies went down in order for the first time in the day. The Sun Devils still led 9-0.
In the bottom half, a lone single from Luke Keaschall was the only offense for the Sun Devils as the rest went down in order. The Sun Devils led 9-0.
Fourth Inning
In the top of the fourth, the Aggies went down in order for the second time today. Jonah Giblin recorded two strikeouts to extend his strikeout total to three. The Sun Devils still led 9-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Sun Devils started off the inning with a Willie Cano walk. Then it was a two-run home run from Nu’u Contrades which extended the Sun Devils lead to 11. Wyatt Crenshaw and Luke Hill hit back-to-back doubles with two outs that extended the lead to 12. Immediately following, Ryan Campos hit a two-run homerun, the second of the inning, that extended the lead to 14. Luke Keaschall grounded out to end the inning. The Sun Devils led 14-0.
Fifth Inning
In the top half of the fifth, the Aggies had a runner in scoring position with a two-out double, however a fly-out ended any scoring chance for them that inning. The Sun Devils led 14-0.
In the bottom half, A single from Jacob Tobias and a double from Willie Cano had the Sun Devils at second and third with one out. Nu’u Contrades brought home Tobias with a sac-fly to extend the lead to 15. A groundout ended the inning. The Sun Devils extended their lead 15-0.
Sixth Inning
In the top of the sixth, a single and a hit-by-pitch had runners on first and second with no outs for the Aggies. Then, a three-run home run got them on the board in the sixth. The Aggies hit a double down the third base line with two outs, but failed to bring him home with a strikeout to end the inning. The Sun Devils led 15-3.
In the bottom half, A walk from Luke Hill and a single from Drake Varnado, his first hit of the season, had runners on first and second early with one out. Luke Keaschall roped a double to clear the bases that extended the Sun Devils lead back to 14. A flyout and groundout ended the inning. The Sun Devils led 17-3.
Seventh Inning
In the top half, the Aggies went down in order for the third time in the game via a flyout, strikeout, and a pop up. The Sun Devils led 17-3.
In the bottom half, a lone single from Trey Newman would be all the offense from the Sun Devils in the bottom half. The Sun Devils led 17-3.
Eighth Inning
In the top half, a two-out solo home run would give the Aggies their fourth run of the game. Nothing more done for them. The Sun Devils led 17-4.
The Sun Devils went down in order for the first time this game. They still led 17-4.
Ninth Inning
A two-out single was the only thing going offensively for the Aggies. The Sun Devils won the game 17-4.
