(New Providence, Bahamas)  Sun Devil Women’s Golf continued their steady play at the Nexus Collegiate as they completed the second round on Tuesday.

No. 13 Arizona State sits in a tie for third place with No. 9 LSU after day two, trailing only No. 2 Wake Forest and host No. 16 Auburn. Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye‘s team finds themselves ahead of No. 4 South Carolina, No. 11 Ole Miss, No. 19 Duke, No. 20 Ole Miss, and several others as they have a chance at another strong finish in a competitive field.

All five counting Sun Devils currently reside in the Top-25 following the second round of the 63-golfer Nexus Collegiate, as it has been a balanced effort leading them to third place. The story of the day was the finish by Grace Summerhays, who saved her best for last while shooting a 70 (-2). The sophomore birdied four of her final five holes, going on an insane hot streak down the stretch. Thanks to her efforts, she moved into the Top-10 and is currently tied for eighth.Joining Summerhays in the Top-10 is Paula Schulz-Hanssen, who has shown remarkable skill and poise for a freshman in this high level of an event. She is tied for sixth, the highest of any Sun Devil, remaining in contention for the individual title. The second-best round of the day came courtesy of Amanda Linner, whose 72 (E) allowed her to move up 14 positions on the leaderboard and into a tie for 21st. She is tied with teammate Ashley Menne and they are both one stroke ahead of Beth Coulter (T-25th), who rounds out the five Sun Devils in the Top-25.

The field will undergo a shotgun start at 5:45 AM MST tomorrow morning, with the Nexus Collegiate team and individual champion decided on the final day at Albany Golf Course.

ROUND BREAKDOWN
A slow start was quickly rectified on hole three, as the Sun Devils initially attacked the front nine. Both Ashley Menne and Amanda Linner birdied the third hole with no bogeys recorded. The sixth hole was extremely lucrative, one of two that four Sun Devils birdied today. A rocky finish to the front nine set up an important push on the back nine.

After recording eight birdies on the front nine, ASU took their game to another level on the back nine, allowing them to maintain their third place positioning. The 15th hole was a launching point, as four Sun Devils recorded birdies which sparked a terrific finish. Led by Grace Summerhays’ four birdies in her final five holes, ASU finished seven-under over the final four holes, including 11 birdies. Summerhays was four-under on the back nine while Calynne Rosholt, Ashley Menne and Beth Coulter were even. Three birdies were carded on each of the final two holes, giving the Sun Devils momentum heading into tomorrow’s final round.

QUOTABLES
“We had a really great finish today,” Coach Farr-Kaye reflected. “The wind completely changed again which makes Albany so challenging.  Grace especially finished well!! It has been a great week in the Bahamas and we look forward to a strong finish tomorrow!”
