Strong Floor Scores Push No. 21 Gym Devils To Best Road Total

(Berkeley, CA)  Senior Hannah Scharfscored season highs on floor and in the all-around as No. 21 Sun Devil Gymnastics matched their season high with a 196.800 to take second to No. 7 Cal’s 197.600 on Saturday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.

Notable Stats

Arizona State (4-4, 1-2 Pac-12) hit a 196-plus for the fourth meet in a row, recording 196.800 in back-to-back meets, today’s being the best road score of the year so far. This was the first meet this year that ASU scored a 49-plus in all four events. However, California (8-0, 2-0 Pac-12) started strong and never looked back, defeating the Gym Devils with a 197.600.

Hannah Scharf

Senior Hannah Scharf had her best meet of the year. She matched her career high on floor with a 9.950, a new season high, to win a share of the event title. That was the highest score on floor by a Sun Devil this year. On bars, tied her career high while also setting a season high with a 9.900. She also tied her season high on vault, with a 9.850. In the all-around, she notched a season-high 39.525.

The Gym Devils outshone the home team on floor, setting their season best at 49.425 with three scores at 9.900+. They extended their floor event total of 49+ streak to two. In addition to Scharf’s 9.950, junior Emily White tied career high and set season high on floor with a 9.900. Fellow junior Jada Mangahas also chipped in a 9.900.

Mangahas tied her career high bars with a 9.875, a season high for her. She also matched her season highs on vault and floor, with a 9.800 and 9.900, respectively.

White was another Sun Devil in the all-around. She scored a 39.400, tying her season high. In addition to her strong floor score, she had 9.850s on bars and beam and a 9.800 on vault.

Junior Sarah Clark had a solid outing in the second-place finish. She tied her season high on beam with a 9.875, a team high today. She also had a 9.850 on floor and a 9.825 on bars.

Rotation One: Bars, 49.225
The Gym Devils started the meet on bars, with Mangahas recording a 9.875 in the third position. Tying her career high and setting a new season high, Mangahas gave ASU a spark to finish the rotation. Scharf also tied her career high while setting a new season high with a 9.900. White and Clark finished the rotation strong for Arizona State with a 9.850 and 9.825, respectively.


Rotation Two: Vault, 49.000
In the second spot in the second rotation, White started the momentum on vault with a 9.800. Mangahas and Alex Theodorou both recorded 9.800 in the middle of the rotation. Scharf anchored the vault for the Gym Devils, scoring a 9.850 and tying her season high.

Rotation Three: Floor, 49.425
Clark provided the spark that led to the Gym Devils’ best event of the day, recording a 9.850 in the second spot. Jaslow followed Clark with a 9.825. White recorded the first of three 9.900+ to end the event, with a 9.900 to tie her career high while setting a season high. Mangahas tied her season high with a 9.900. Scharf also set a season high while tying her career high with a 9.950 to anchor the event for ASU.

Rotation Four: Beam, 49.150
The Gym Devils finished strong on the beam, leading off with Kayla Lee’s 9.800. In Skye Harper’s only event, she notched a 9.800 as well. Clark tied her season high with a 9.875. In the fifth spot, White recorded a 9.850. Scharf anchored out the rotation with a 9.825.
