(Irvine, CA)  The Park Gilbert men’s basketball team opened their final round of away games with yet another loss to the Warriors of Westcliff University, 61-73 on Friday night despite outscoring their competition in the last half. With the loss, the Bucs extended their season-high losing streak to nine games.

The Buccaneers had a difficult time finding their footing in the first 20 minutes, as LC Ballard led the team with just seven points, shooting 3-6 from the floor. Collectively, Park could not seem to sink any, as they went 10-30 with Westcliff outshooting them 16-32.

The Bucs showed some life in the second half, however, and took advantage of a lackadaisical Warriors defensive effort to quickly chip away at the deficit. A steal by Ballard followed by a bucket from Davon Cobbs gave the Bucs their first lead of the game with 10:14 left to go in the contest.

However, the Bucs first and only lead in the game was short lived, lasting precisely 27 seconds as the Warriors retook the lead, never looking back. The Warriors took advantage of quality shots, going 11-22 as a team in the second half, cementing their victory down the stretch.

Cobbs was a huge factor in the Bucs finding their way back into the game, chipping in with nine points in the second half and a crucial three point shot that brought the team within one point of a lead. He also hit the layup that ultimately put Park over the Warriors, followed by a block that helped continue the lead.

Zach Lewkowski found his rhythm in the second half, with nine points, four rebounds, and two steals. Zrebric Humphrey Jr. capped his night with seven points and a team high of three offensive boards.

The Bucs will conclude their 2022-23 season with a matchup against the University of Saint Katherine on Feb. 15 in San Marcos, Calif. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
