(State College, PA)  Arizona State lacrosse (1-1) held No. 25 Penn State (4-0) to a tight first half before falling short, 8-4 Friday afternoon. The Sun Devils will have a day off before they close out their east coast road trip on Sunday, Feb. 26 in Maryland against Towson at 9 a.m. MST featured on FloSports and Statbroadcast.

This is the second time in program history that ASU has held a top-25 opponent to 10 or less goals in a game.

NOTABLES:

The Sun Devils lead the Nittany Lions in draw control, 8-7.

Teagan Ng has now scored a goal in both of her starts (St. Bonaventure and Penn State).

Kaylon Buckner’s free position goal was the only one made by both teams.

Lydia Oldknow claimed her second goal of 2023.

Junior Kaitlyn Skamas saw her first career goal as a Sun Devil.

FIRST QUARTER:
In a matter of 50 seconds, three goals scored between the squads with the Nittany Lions knocking on the door first. Sun Devil freshman Teagan Ng cut into space at the eight-meter before she pushed into the crease to juke the Penn State goalie. Ng’s goal cut the lead, 2-1. It was back and forth until captain Kaylon Buckner made her free position shot at 3:14 to tie the game at two before Penn State would score one more to end the quarter.

SECOND QUARTER:
Kaitlyn Skamas scored her first career goal to claim the Sun Devils’ third on the board. Less than a minute later, Lydia Oldknow used the screen left by Buckner to move around the Nittany Lion defender and scored to tie the game 4-4. The brilliant offensive play forced Penn State to take a timeout. With 15 seconds left in the half, Penn State would go up by one goal.

THIRD QUARTER:
The Sun Devils had four shots, but were unable to see any openings during the third quarter to cut down Penn State’s 7-4 lead.

FOURTH QUARTER:
Defensively, Katie Vahle, Bella and Gigi Gaspar, Kaitlyn Skamas and Colleen Ryan were holding down the eight-meter in the final 15 minutes. In her first appearance of 2023, Vahle went .664 in save percentage.
