(Caldwell, ID) The Park University Gilbert baseball dropped the final two games of the a four-game set at the College of Idaho this afternoon 10-5 and 5-1. With the two losses, the Bucs were swept by the Coyotes and drop to 3-6 on the season.
The Bucs jumped on top in the first inning of game one, scoring three runs as Chris Amador(triple), Aaron Stinnett (RBI single) and Austin Chouinard (single) got things off to a hot start. Stinnett would score on an error by the pitcher and Chouinard would come home on a ground out. Two of the three runs in the inning were earned.
COI would come right back with three of their own against Bucs start Joseph Chavira. The Coyotes would get two doubles, a hit by pitch, a wild pitch and two walks which would plate two runs before the Bucs got an out. Chavira would end up striking out the side but walked in one ore run before getting the final out.
Both starters would settle in, Chavira only allowing one more run over the next three innings and Coyote starter Kirby Robinson would also only allow one more run in his next two innings of work. Both pitchers would leave the game without the chance for getting a decision which put the contest in the hands of each teams bullpens.
Park Gilbert took a 5-4 lead on a Cade Maestas sac fly in the fifth but this would be the last run the Bucs could muster for the game. COI was able to scrape out runs in the fifth and sixth to retake the lead. The Yotes added to their lead in the seventh and eighth as they plated two runs in each inning to get to the final score of 10-5.
Chris Amador, Aaron Stinnett and Austin Chouinard each had two hits. Stinnett and Chouinard each scored two runs.
Dylan Jaquez took the loss in relief to fall to 0-1. Jack Stewart (2-0) got the win for the College of Idaho as Colby Durski picked up his second save of the season.
Game two was scoreless for three innings as Park starter Matthew Armendariz scattered three hits and struck out three in his second start of the season. COI broke through in the fourth against Bucs closer Diego Bustillos who was brought in earlier than normal. Bustillos struggled giving up seven hits and four runs (three earned) over two innings.
Those runs would be enough to secure the win as the Buccaneer bats were silenced by Coyote pitchers Kris Kirkpatrick and Ben Gaff who only allowed six hits and one run.
Maestas and Joaquin Martinez accounted for four of the six hits as they each had two and Martinez drove in the only Buccaneer run for the game.
Kyle Poapst, Angel Heredia and Atley Jacome each threw an inning. Poapst allowed one run, while Heredia and Jacome kept the Coyotes off the board.
Bustillos (0-1) took the loss while Kirkpatrick got the win and Gaff the save.
The Buccaneers will get right back to work next week as they play in the Firestorm Invitational. They host British Columbia on Wednesday and Arizona Christian on Thursday at 6 p.m. both nights at Bell Bank Park.
