Aztecs Baseball dominates in single game win over Community Christian College

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (11-4) closed out its series against Community Christian College on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.

The Aztecs took two out of three from the Saints as they won 12-2 gaining the run rule victory in seven innings.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the 4th inning, the Aztecs scored four runs in the inning to take the lead for good. The Aztecs loaded the bases with one out as freshman Sterling Albrand (Millennium HS) hit a two-run RBI single driving in freshmen Brant Kragel and Antonio Avila. Freshman Elijah Reeves (Marana HS) followed with a sacrifice-fly RBI to bring in sophomore Andrew Maxwell. Freshman Alessandro Castro (Pusch Ridge Christian HS) capped off the inning with an RBI single scoring Albrand to make it 6-2.

The Aztecs tacked on five runs in the 6th inning. Sophomore Gage Mestas hit a two-run RBI triple, bringing in Reeves and freshman Austin Madsen (Canyon del Oro HS) to make it 9-2. Kragel contributed to the inning with a two-run RBI single to bring around Mestas and sophomore Luis Garcia (Salpointe Catholic HS).

The Aztecs sealed it in the 7th inning when Mestas hit a walk-off RBI double to score Reeves.

Mestas finished the game going 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored while Albrand went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kragel was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run. Castro closed out the game going 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two walks. Reeves and Avila each scored two runs.

Sophomore Matt Cornelius picked up the win (3-1) as he pitched five innings giving up two runs (none earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. Sophomore Dayne Pengelly pitched the final two innings giving up one hit with three strikeouts.
