Stephanie Tapia belts two homers as Aztecs Softball finishes 2-3 at CSN Kickoff Classic

(Henderson, NV)  The Pima Community College softball team closed out play in the College of Southern Nevada Kickoff Classic on Saturday as it went 1-1 on the day and finished 2-3 overall.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 11, College of Southern Nevada Coyotes 9:

The Aztecs took a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning and scored another four runs in the 3rd to make it 9-3. The Coyotes rallied with six runs in the 7th but the Aztecs held them off for the win.
Sophomore Stephanie Tapia (Cibola HS) hit two home runs in the game and finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. She also hit a double in the game.
Freshmen Madison Fillman-Moreno (Sabino HS) and Mina Chacon (Tucson Magnet HS) each had two RBIs.
Freshman Alexis Tsosie-Hood (1-0) picked up the win after throwing a complete-game giving up nine runs (nine earned) on 12 hits with five strikeouts and four walks.

Game 1: (10) College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles 9, Pima CC Aztecs 6:

The Aztecs dropped a close game to the No. 10 team in the NJCAA Division I national poll. Tapia finished 2 for 4 with a run scored and freshman Camilla Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS) finished with two runs scored.

The Aztecs will play in the Great Western Shootout on Thursday and Friday at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex in Yuma, AZ. The Aztecs play two games on Thursday as they face off against the College of Southern Idaho at 3:00 p.m. and Snow College at 5:00 p.m.
