(Riverside, CA)   The men’s basketball team at Park University Gilbert clinched their third conference win of the season, improving on their 2-10 record from the previous year, after a big 67-57 win against the Golden Eagles of La Sierra University.

Domination on the board and quality shots were the two keys entering the game for head coach Gordon Stubblefield‘s Buccaneer lineup, and they executed both to perfection. On the glass, the Bucs out rebounded the Golden Eagles 45-26, a season-high in rebound differential. Aidan Morenoplayed a role in this with his first double-double of the season. A late defensive rebound gave him 12 boards overall, tacking on to his 10 points to finish quite the performance in the Bucs victory.

In addition to the rebounding numbers, the Buccaneers also shot a notable 47.2% from the field, converting on their opportunities to extend their lead at times. Zach Lewkowski led the game with 15 points on 6-11 shooting, including all three of the Bucs three-pointers. Moreno, Kylan Shorts, and Tre Adams were the other Buccaneers with double-digit points.

The Bucs also set their season high in steals with 11, with Adams, Vincent Cooke, and LC Ballard all bagging a pair of takeaways. While they did have their second-worst turnover game on the season with 25 turnovers, the 11 steals and control on the glass led to the successful result.

A late 11-0 point run pulled the Buccaneers into a comfortable lead before the night concluded. Shorts chipped in with two pairs of free-throws after being fouled by Blake Bluitt and Caleb Tinker. The Bucs now work towards improving their already monumental season record. During the 2021-22 season, they finished with two conference wins, and ranked last in the preseason poll.

Park will continue their California road trip with a contest against RV University of Antelope Valley on Jan. 20 at 8:30 p.m.
