(Phoenix, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (6-0, 2-0 in ACCAC) picked up its first road win of the regular season on Wednesday at Phoenix College (3-5, 0-2).
The Aztecs defeated the Bears 110-99 as they established a double-digit lead in the first half.
Up 21-13, the Aztecs outscored the Bears 23-13 in a 10-minute span to take a 44-26 lead. The Aztecs led 50-35 at halftime.
The Aztecs held a double-digit advantage for much of the second half but the Bears made it interesting as they cut Pima’s lead to 104-99 with one minute left. The Aztecs scored the final six points of the game to seal it.
Freshman Jaylen Alexander led the Aztecs with a team-high 29 points to go along with nine rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Sophomore Traivar Jackson finished with 23 points and was a force on defense as he posted eight blocks and collected four steals. He also had four rebounds and four assists. Freshman Mike Pope also added 23 points and six rebounds.
Sophomore Cesar Saenz (Sabino HS) had a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists as well as five steals. Freshman Jamison Kay (Gila Ridge HS) contributed with 10 points.
The Aztecs will be back on the road on Saturday when they play at Yavapai College at 2:00 p.m.The Roughriders reinstated their program and are playing in their first season since 2010-11.
