(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (1-0) opened the 2022-23 season on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 18 ranked Aztecs defeated SAGU American Indian College 103-44. The Aztecs outscored the Warriors by double digits in every quarter.
The Pima bench scored 59 points on the night and were led by freshman Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS), who scored a game-high 16 points on 8 for 11 shooting. She also had eight rebounds.
Sophomore Priscila Varela (Mesquite HS) finished with 13 points while sophomore Torrance Begay (Page HS) contributed with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Aztecs shot 46 percent from the field and hit 11 3-pointers.
The Aztecs will hit the road for the Eastern Arizona Classic from Nov. 10-12 in Thatcher. They will open play against Eastern Wyoming College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
