(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (3-2, 0-1 in ACCAC) played its first ACCAC conference game on Tuesday against Eastern Arizona College (7-0, 1-0) at the West Campus Aztec Gym.
The No. 17 ranked Aztecs (Division II) fell to the No. 23 Gila Monsters (Division I) 65-46 as Pima was forced to play catch-up for much of the contest.
The Aztecs trailed by double digits in the first quarter but closed it out on a 6-0 run to make it 15-11. They trailed 31-24 at the break.
The Gila Monsters opened up the third quarter on a 12-5 run to put Pima down 43-29 and the Aztecs couldn’t close it to a single digit deficit.
Sophomore Luisa Chavez (Rio Rico HS) scored a team-high 12 points while fellow sophomore Torrance Begay (Page HS) went 4 for 7 from the field and had nine points.
Freshmen Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) and Miriam Traore (AZ Compass Prep) each had seven rebounds.
The Aztecs will play at Phoenix College on Wednesday, November 30. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
