Sugar Skulls re-sign Mike Jones

TUCSON – The Tucson Sugar Skulls have re-signed All-IFL Second Team selection Mike Jones for the 2023 season.

Mike Jones is set to return to Tucson for his fourth season with the Sugar Skulls and in the IFL, gaining veteran status.

Jones had a dominant season in 2022, compiling 183 rushing attempts in his third IFL season for 718 yards (6th) for an average of 44.9 yards per game (5th) and 37 total rushing touchdowns (1st).

The IFL rushing touchdown leader also added 18 receptions for 185 yards to go with one receiving touchdown. The veteran back also chipped in with 10 kickoff returns for 139 yards total.

Jones has been a steady presence of offense throughout the years for the Sugar Skulls. After having dominated his rookie season with the Sugar Skulls, Jones was named the 2019 All-IFL First-Team selection at running back.

That year, he led the league in rushing with 711 yards, despite missing two games. Jones also paced the Sugar Skulls with 25 touchdowns, while adding 32 receptions for 293 yards.

The Sarasota, FL native attended Bethune-Cookman University, where he led the team in rushing during his sophomore and senior years. Across a five-year career, including a redshirt season at BCU, Jones rushed for 1,842 yards and scored 21 touchdowns.
