(Scottsdale, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (9-1, 6-1 in ACCAC) earned a big win on the road at Scottsdale Community College (10-2, 5-2) in a clash between two NJCAA Division II nationally ranked programs.

The No. 3 ranked Aztecs snapped Scottsdale’s four-game winning streak after toppling the Artichokes 2-0. It was Pima’s ninth shutout win in 10 games.

Freshman Meredith Scott (Walden Grove HS) put the Aztecs on the board in the 27thminute with her header into the goal that was assisted by sophomore Nayeli Vidal (Sahuaro HS).

The Aztecs got an insurance goal early in the second half when sophomore Delaney Buntin (Cienega HS) found the back of the net with her goal in the 56th minute. Fellow sophomore Savannah Gutierrez (Tucson Magnet HS) had the assist.

Sophomore Angelina Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished with five saves as the backfield of Gutierrez, sophomores Bri Gerhart (Tanque Verde HS), Alexus Mendez (Tucson Magnet HS), Sophia Duran (Tucson Magnet HS) and freshmen Analee Oropeza (Ironwood Ridge HS), Gabi Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HS), and Samantha Michel (Walden Grove HS) helped preserve the team’s ninth shutout in 10 games.

Player’s Quote: “I thought we did really well on our transition from offense to defense tonight and making sure everyone was in their position to win the ball back,” Buntin said. “We knew it was imperative to come home with a win tonight because both teams only lost one game and it was important for us to have the right mentality for the game.
“My goal really gave us confidence as a team to finish the game strong and to hold that 2-0 lead.”

The Aztecs have three games left in the regular season; two will be at the West Campus Aztec Field. They will host Yavapai College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Pima goals: Meredith Scott (Nayeli Vidal) 27th minute; Delaney Buntin (Savanahh Gutierrez) 56thminute.
