(Prescott, AZ) On day three of the Embry Riddle Co-ed Fall Invitational, Park University Gilbert golfers Josh Smith fired a 74 on the men’s side and Sammie Quilter an 81 to move up the leaderboard in the final round of the tournament played at the Antelope Hills North Golf Course in Prescott, Ariz. From a team standpoint the Buccaneers struggled as a team dropping to sixth place in the tournament. The women did not have enough players competing to qualify for the women’s team tournament.
Smith, a freshman, shot his season and career low round with the 74 to move into 15th place in the tournament, his best ever finish. His 3-over par score featured three birdies and 11 pars. He finished at 229 which is his best 54-hole score, besting the 232 he shot last week in the OUAZ Fall Invitational.
Quilter, who shot 103 in the second round yesterday, tied her career low with the 81, a mark she set last week at the OUAZ Invitational. The final round score moved her into 16th place, one shot behind teammate Taylor Gransen who shot 92 to finish one shot better in 15th place.
On the team side the Buccaneers shot a final round 316 which dropped them into sixth place with a 947 overall score. Redlands won the tournament with a total score of 880. The team carded nine birdies, but this was offset by 11 double bogeys or worse.
Individually, along with Smith’s 74, Max Callerman shot a 4-over 75 with two birdies, 10 pars and no double bogeys or worse on his card. Noah Blaickner shot his worst round as a Buc with 10-over 81. The first round in his career in the 80’s. Despite that, Blaickner still was the Bucs second highest finisher in 22nd place.
The Buccaneers now have two weeks off ahead of their next tournament as they will stay close to home to participate in the Benedictine Mesa Invitational at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., on Monday and Tuesday, October 24 and 25.
