(San Francisco, CA)  Sun Devil Football freshman placekicker Carter Brown was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Brown put together another incredible performance, helping lead Arizona State to a 45-38 home victory over No. 21 Washington on Saturday.

The Sun Devils picked up the first win for Interim Head Coach Shaun Aguano in style, putting up 45 points on the Huskies, the most they had allowed since Sept. 6, 2014. Brown accounted for nine of those points, converting on his only field goal and going a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points.

Arizona State moved the ball into Washington territory on their first possession of the game, but the drive stalled at the 36-yard line. Coach Aguano was then presented with a decision, play the field position battle or give the freshman kicker a shot at a career-long. He trusted the leg of Brown and that faith was rewarded, as Brown split the uprights on a 53-yard field goal to get the Sun Devils on the board. Brown did not miss any of his six extra points the remainder of the game, with his nine-point output proving to be a huge difference.

Since 1983, Sun Devils have won a total of 146 Pac-10/12 Player of the Week Honors. 32 of those have come since 2018, the fifth-highest mark in the conference during that span. This is the second time Brown has won Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week in only six weeks at the collegiate level, previously receiving the recognition back in week one after the 40-3 victory over NAU. He becomes the 20th specialist to win a Player of the Week award since Associate Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Shawn Slocum arrived in Tempe back in 2015. Carter Brown – Special Teams Player of the Week
Freshman kicker Carter Brown continues to excel, doing his job in Arizona State’s 45-38 victory over No. 21 Washington. Brown’s 53-yard field goal (3:57 left in 1Q) was the sixth-longest field goal in ASU history. It is also a career-high, surpassing his previous mark of 48 vs. NAU on Sept. 1st, 2022. It is the third-longest field goal by a Sun Devil at Sun Devil Stadium since 1982, and the longest field goal since 2016. It was the longest field goal made by a true freshman in ASU history. He ties Thomas Weber (2007) for the longest by any freshman, as Weber was a redshirt freshman when he made a 53-yarder. Tied for the longest field goal made by a Pac-12 kicker this season (Stanford K Joshua Karty, Oct. 1 vs Oregon). He is now 9/10 on field goals and has made all 18 of his extra points this season, accounting for a team-high 45 points.
