Bianchi scores but No. 1 Aztecs Men’s Soccer gets upset at No. 20 Mesa CC

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (6-1-1, 3-1-1 in ACCAC) suffered its first setback of the season on Saturday at Mesa Community College (8-2-1, 3-1-1).

The No. 1 ranked Aztecs’ rally was cut short in the second half as they fell to the No. 20 Thunderbirds 2-1. It was Pima’s first loss to Mesa since Sept. 2013

Cole Wood put Mesa on the scoreboard with a goal in the 18th minute. The Thunderbirds went up 2-0 three minutes later with a goal by Mark Gomez.

The Aztecs cut the deficit in half when sophomore Nicholas Bianchi (Pinnacle HS) scored off of a pass from sophomore Ernesto Osornio (Ironwood HS) in the 62nd minute.

Freshman Cristian Sattin finished the match with seven saves.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday, Oct. 1 when they host Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
