(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (5-0-1, 2-0-1 in ACCAC) battled with rival Phoenix College on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Field in a game between top NJCAA Division II teams.
The No. 1 ranked Aztecs took the lead but the No. 3 ranked Bears responded with two unanswered as the game finished in a 2-2 tie. This was the first meeting between the Aztecs and the Bears since their NJCAA Region I, Division II Finals where the Bears won in a shootout.
The Aztecs took the lead 54 seconds into the game when freshman Nicolas Nourry scored on an assist from sophomore Ernesto Osornio (Ironwood HS). The Aztecs went up 2-0 when sophomore Jacob Garcia (Walden Grove HS) scored in the box in the 25th minute. Osornio provided his second assist of the game.
The Bears built momentum towards the end of the first half when Ivan Lopez scored in the 43rd minute. They tied the game when Ivan Corral scored in the 65th minute.
Neither team scored in the two 10-minute overtime sessions so the game ended in a stalemate.
Freshman Cristian Sattin finished with eight saves.
The Aztecs hit the road on Tuesday for a matchup at Glendale Community College. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
