(Stockton, CA)  With one round to play, the Arizona State men’s golf team leads 14-team field at the NCAA Stockton Regional, and it got its top player entering the season back in the lineup.

All-American David Puig subbed in the second round after battling a bad back for a few weeks, and promptly fired a 3-under 69 that included five birdies, including four of them in the final 11 holes.

A top-five finish gets ASU in the NCAA Championships, to be held again this year at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale.

Freshman Josele Ballester continues to lead the way for the Sun Devils as he is tied for first with a 7-under 137 (68-69), with Mason Andersenclose behind at 6-under 138 (70-68) and tied for seventh. Thirteen players are within two strokes of the lead entering the final round Wednesday.

ASU leads the field with 44 birdies and four eagles.
