(Phoenix, AZ)  Leonard Griffin has taken the position of men’s soccer head coach at University of California, Berkeley, after holding the same role at Grand Canyon the past year.

A national search to find GCU’s next men’s soccer head coach is underway.

“It is super hard to have to leave a special place like GCU,” Griffin said. “A massive thanks to (Vice President of Athletics) Jamie Boggs and President Brian Mueller and the entire athletic department for the opportunity to lead such a special program. Even though the time was short, I feel like I was able to leave the program in a great place and I’m very proud of that. I know the program will continue to reach even higher heights.”

The Lopes have qualified for three of the last four NCAA tournaments, including the most recent one under Griffin. GCU ended the 2021 season ranked No. 19 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll and No. 18 in the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index.

“We thank Coach Griffin for his time at GCU and for continuing our success in men’s soccer this past year,” Boggs said. “With our university’s commitment to men’s soccer, nationally recognized fan support and state-of-the-art facilities, we know this is one of the top men’s soccer jobs in the country that will attract a top candidate pool.”
