(Tucson, AZ) Pima Community College men’s track & field athlete Reece Gardner had a big weekend at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships in Pittsburg, KS.
Gardner, a freshman Jumper and Multi’s competitor, was named the Chapman Automotive Aztecs Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for the week of Feb. 28-Mar. 6.
Gardner earned the NJCAA Indoor National Title in the Heptathlon on Saturday with a new Pima school record of 5112 points. He also broke the school record in the Pole Vault with a mark of 4.73 meters (15-feet, 5-inches) as he placed third in the event.
Gardner produced a 3.0-3.5 GPA range for the fall semester.
Off the track, Gardner has helped his teammates in study hall and learn the events they’re competing in. He has also assisted the coaches in directing athletes in the right place and keeping them on task.
He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and the Los Mezquites Cross Country Event hosted by Sunnyside high School. Where he helped mark the course and directed runners. He also volunteered in yard and roadside clean-up projects.
Gardner and the Aztecs will begin the Outdoor Season at the Willie Williams Invitational on Mar. 18-19 at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
