Joel Gardner and Reece Gardner take down school records as Aztecs Men’s Track & Field complete first day of NJCAA Indoor National Championships

(Pittsburg, KS)  The Pima Community College men’s track & field team finished the first day of competition at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships in Pittsburg, KS.

The Aztecs finished the day with seven team points and sit in 14th place in the team standings.

Sophomore Reece Gardner (Marana HS) earned third place and six points for the Aztecs in the Pole Vault as he broke the Pima Indoor school record by four inches with a vault of 4.73 meters (15-feet, 5-inches). He sits in sixth place in the Heptathlon; which will be completed after Saturday’s events.

Freshman Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) earned NJCAA All-American honors and broke the Pima school record in the 5,000 meter race by 25 seconds as he finished with a time of 14 minutes, 43.36 seconds. He earned one team point for Pima.

The Aztecs will compete in the final day of the Indoor National Championships on Saturday in Pittsburg, KS.
