(Tucson, AZ) The Sugar Skulls bolstered their backfield by signing former NFL DB Al Louis-Jean ahead of the 2022 season.
DB Al Louis-Jean (6’2″, 190, Boston College) joins the Sugar Skulls for his first season in Tucson, and third overall season in the IFL. He played the 2019 and 2020 seasons for the Massachusetts Pirates, last recording 9.5 tackles for the Pirates in the 2019 season.
Louis-Jean has a wealth of professional football experience, including playing for the Chicago Bears in 2014 where he signed after going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft. He was promoted from the Bears’ practice squad and saw action in 9 games that season where he recorded 9 tackles and had 1 pass defense. Louis-Jean also spent time with the Washington Football Team (2016), Miami Dolphins (2016), and the Ottawa Redblacks in the Canadian Football League (2017).
The 6’2″ defensive back originally committed to play collegiately for the Miami Hurricanes, but a change of heart led him to play at Boston College from 2011-2013, where he made an immediate impact as an underclassman. As a freshman in 2011 for the Boston College Eagles, Louis-Jean played in 10 games, making 2 starts. He compiled 15 tackles on the season along with 3 pass breakups and 1 interception. In 2013 (after sitting out 2012) he recorded 21 total tackles. Against NC State he had a career-high 5 tackles and 1 forced fumble.
Louis-Jean was a standout player at Brockton High School in Brockton, Massachusetts where he was selected to the All-State Team. He earned Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic honors and was a two-time Brockton Enterprise All-Scholastic choice along with winning team MVP as a senior defensive back for the Brockton Boxers.
