Seven score in double figures as Aztecs men’s basketball beats Benedictine University Mesa JV

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (2-0) earned a dominating win on Thursday against Benedictine University Mesa JV.

The No. 15 ranked Aztecs defeated the Redhawks 130-61.

The Aztecs produced seven scorers in double figure and were led by freshman Cooper Burbank (Chinle HS), who finished with 19 points. Freshman Traivar Jackson fell short of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds while freshman Damon McDowell Jr. also netted 15 points.

Sophomore Daniel Moody (Walden Grove HS) had 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks and freshman Itury Kitt (Eastpointe HS) posted 13 points and five rebounds.

Freshman Jalen Johnson finished with 11 points while freshman Griffin Effenberger flirted with a triple-double with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they host the Hillcrest Post-Grad team on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
