(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (5-1, 1-0 in ACCAC) opened ACCAC conference play on Wednesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 9 ranked Aztecs defeated Arizona Western College 61-59. The Aztecs got a defensive stop with four seconds left and sophomore Nikya Orange (Tanque Verde HS) came down with the defensive board.
Sophomore Melissa Simmons scored a team-high 16 points as she hit four 3-pointers in the game.
Sophomore Angel Addleman (Palo Verde HS) added 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sophomore Luisayde Chavez (Rio Rico HS) struggled from floor scoring just six points on 1 for 13 shooting but she was a difference maker under the glass as she finished with 12 rebounds.
The Aztecs finished 17 for 21 from the free throw line.
The win gives Coach Todd Holthaus 299 victories for his Pima career. He looks for No. 300 on Saturday when the Aztecs host Central Arizona College at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
