[Tucson, AZ) The Tucson Sugar Skulls and the Indoor Football League announced the 2022 regular season schedule. The league will return to its regularly scheduled 16-game regular season with eight home games being played at the Boneyard.
The Indoor Football season will begin Saturday, March 19, but the Sugar Skulls will have to wait until the following week to travel to the new expansion team in Vegas (Henderson) to start their season. After a first-week bye, the two will face off for a Sunday afternoon kickoff at 1:05 p.m. on March 27 at the Dollar Loan Center, a newly constructed multi-purpose indoor arena set to host the Vegas Knight Hawks.
Tucson will then travel to Spokane before heading home to face the San Diego Strike Force for their home opener at the Tucson Arena on Saturday, April 9 at 6:05 p.m. They will face San Diego, after their 2021 dormancy, three times during the regular season.
Starting Saturday, April 23, the Sugar Skulls will welcome the Northern Arizona Wranglers, Duke City Gladiators, and Arizona Rattlers for three consecutive weekends at home. All games are scheduled for Saturday evenings at 6:05 p.m. and will take place on April 23, April 30, and May 7, where fans will be able to celebrate Mother’s Day early. The Sugar Skulls defeated Duke City in every matchup of their 2021 season (3-0), including the last home game overcoming an 18-point deficit, defeating the Gladiators 63-59 in the final seven seconds of regulation.
The Sugar Skulls will see four new teams in 2022 (three out of dormancy and one new), including three that will visit the Sugar Skulls during the regular season. After facing the Strike Force for the home opener, Tucson will host the Bay Area Panthers on Saturday, June 11 and the Vegas Knight Hawks on Saturday, June 18 (Father’s Day weekend).
