Lossou named ACCAC Player of the Year as six Aztecs Men’s Soccer players named All-Conference and All-Region

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s soccer team produced six players on the All-ACCAC/All-Region I, Division II teams on Tuesday released by the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference.

Sophomore Sam Lossou (Rincon HS), a defender, was named ACCAC Player of the Year along with first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II honors. He is the sixth Aztec to be named conference player of the year in the last eight years. Seungeon Kim (2020-21), Hugo Kametani (2018), AJ Valenzuela (2017), Jason Romero (2015) and Arturo Vega (2014) came before him but Lossou is the first defender in that bunch.

Lossou played and started in all 15 games during the regular season scoring two goals. He anchored a defense that surrendered just 10 goals (second in ACCAC), had a 0.66 goals-against average and produced seven shutout victories.

Sophomore Brian Vu (Rincon HS), a midfielder, was selected first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II. He led the Aztecs with 11 goals, 23 points and five game-winners. He played and started in all 15 games.

Sophomore forward Francisco Manzo (Salpointe Catholic HS) was listed second team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II. He was named All-ACCAC Honorable Mention the last two seasons. He started in all 15 games as he scored seven goals and had eight assists (tied for second in the ACCAC with teammate Jacob Garcia).

Sophomore midfielder Manuel Quiroz (Sunnyside HS) was named second team All-ACCAC and second team All-Region I, Division II. He played in 13 games; making 12 starts as he scored eight goals and went 3 for 3 in penalty kick opportunities.

Sophomore goalkeeper Juan Suarez (Desert View HS) was selected All-ACCAC Honorable Mention for the second straight season and second team All-Region I, Division II. He started all 15 games protecting the net as he logged 1,314 minutes. He led the ACCAC with a saves percentage of .882. He was second in the conference with 75 saves and a 0.68 goals-against average.

Sophomore midfielder Ulysses Torres (Sunnyside HS) earned second team All-ACCAC and second team All-Region I, Division II honors. He played in 12 games; making 11 starts. He scored five goals and had three assists during the regular season.

The No. 1 seeded Aztecs will host No. 4 Glendale Community College on Wednesday in the NJCAA Region I, Division II semifinals. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. at the West Campus Aztec Soccer Field part of the Chapman Automotive Sports Complex.
