(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s tennis season came to an end after the third day of competition at the NJCAA Division I Tournament.
The Aztecs finished with a team score of six points.
Freshman Melina Oropeza (Nogales HS) defeated Ashlynn Miller from Jacksonville College (TX) 6-1 in the No. 2 singles consolation quarterfinals. She went on to the semifinal round but lost to Ariadna Jordan from Jones County Junior College (MS) 6-0.
The No. 3 doubles duo of freshmen Jazmin Nunez (Cholla HS) and Noelia Carbajal (Sunnyside HS) won their consolation quarterfinal match over Grace Marino and Keely Mulcahy from Lake County Community College (IL) 7-6 (5). They fell in their consolation semifinals match to Crissy Cruz and Kailee Upchurch from Wallace State Community College (AL) 6-3.
Carbajal dropped her No. 6 singles consolation quarterfinal match to Maja Rulj from St. Petersburg Community College (FL) 6-0.
The Aztecs claimed second place at the NJCAA Region I Tournament. They received recognition from the conference:
Jazmin Nunez – First team All-ACCAC (No. 5 singles).
Melina Oropeza – Second team All-ACCAC (No. 2 singles); Second team All-ACCAC (No. 1 doubles)
Olivia Manheimer – Second team All-ACCAC (No. 1 doubles)
Ashley Fitzsimmons – Second team All-ACCAC (No. 2 doubles)
Valeria Miranda – Second team All-ACCAC (No. 2 doubles)
