Aztecs men’s golf takes second place as Goldin places fifth at South Mountain Invitational

(Phoenix, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s golf team competed its fifth tournament of the season on Tuesday as part of the South Mountain Invitational held at the Legacy Golf Course in Phoenix.

The Aztecs took second place in the team standings for the second time this season. They finished with a team score of 584 (290-294). South Mountain Community College was first with 566.

Freshman Curtis Goldin (McClintock HS) had the best overall score for the Aztecs as he took fifth place in the individual standings. He shot an even-par 71 in the final round to finish with a 144 (73-71). He was six strokes off the leader.

Freshman Matthew Fimbres (Cienega HS) shot an even-par 71 in the first round and finished seventh in the standings with a 146 (71-75). Freshman Cody Goza (Blue Ridge HS) tied for 11th place after he shot a 148 (75-73). Freshman Samuel Salisbury (Walden Grove HS) closed it out with a 151 (73-78).

The Aztecs will compete in the Chandler-Gilbert Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Los Colinas Golf Course in Queen Creek. Teams will begin to tee off at 12:30 p.m.
