FROM THE TIP

For the first time since 1996, Arizona will be playing for a postseason title. The Wildcats won the NWIT Championship over Northwestern back in 1996.

Arizona has beaten Idaho State, Pacific, Idaho, Wyoming and TCU on their road to the championship game.

Arizona is the only team representing the Pac-12 in the WNIT.

The Wildcats, led by sophomore Adia Barnes, won the 1996 NWIT.

All-American Aari McDonald owns the Arizona single-season scoring record and is currently fourth on the Pac-12 single-season scoring list. She joins Maya Moore as the only two players since 2000 to have 800 points, 200 rebounds and 150 assists in one season and is the only player since 2000 to have 800 points, 200 rebounds, 150 assists and 90 steals in one season.

Cate Reese became the first Arizona freshman to score 20 points in a postseason game and is also the first freshman since Shawntinice Polk to have a double-double in her first career postseason game. She is shooting 60% from the field and averaging a shade under 15 points per game in her last seven.

Arizona has won 23 games for the first time since the 2003-04 season when the Cats won 24 games.

The Wildcats have won 17 more games than last season’s win total, the largest turnaround in school history as well as the largest turnaround by a Pac-12 team since 2000.

Arizona’s average attendance in the first five games of the WNIT is 6,192. The crowd of 10,135 in the semifinals was the largest in school history as well as the fifth largest in Pac-12 history.
