Wildcats flash past Kent State in 10-0 run rule win

Hillary Edior

(Tucson, AZ)  After a win in the first game versus Drake University Next up was the Kent State Golden Flashes, who came into the game with a (6-6) record.

The offense carried over into the game against Kent State with two early runs in the first inning featuring a RBI single from Arizona catcher Dejah Mulipola giving her fifteen RBI’s on the season. The Wildcats would add on another run in the second inning to put the Cats up three to nothing early in the ball game.

After shutting out Team Japan in Palm Springs, Arizona pitcher Gina Snyder didn’t miss a beat starting of the game striking out two of the first three outs of the game. Through the first three innings Snyder totaled a stellar seven strikeouts through three innings of work and didn’t allow a hit until two outs in the third.

Arizona’s bats would stay hot in the 4th inning with two homeruns, one was a two-run shot by Arizona’s Jesse Harper and the other was another two-run homer from Arizona freshman Izzy Pacho. Harper’s homer would give her three homers on the day, two versus Drake and one versus Kent State bringing her homerun total to nine on the season. This would be a massive inning for Arizona as they scored seven runs to close the door on the Golden Flashes.

Snyder didn’t finish the game as sophomore Hanah Bowen came into relief to finish of the 10-0 win for the Wildcats.

Snyder would end the game with seven strikeouts and only allowing one hit on fifty pitches through four innings of work. It seemed like the momentum from the Japan game carried over for Snyder against the Kent State. The Cats finished off the Golden Flashes in a five inning run rule.

With Snyder looking the part each time out it opens up the question if Arizona has found their third starting pitcher. One of the biggest pieces to Arizona’s wins Friday night was the bottom half of the batting order collecting nine hits in the Wildcats two games. The Wildcats finished the day improving to 12-5 on the season with #23 Minnesota and #19 James Madison lurking on the schedule this weekend.
